I had the poodle first, and then later got a cockapoo, which was young. Maybe the sucking began as a way of nursing, though my poodle is a male dog. Now I have noticed that both dogs engage in sucking each others fur, as if nursing. Why would they do this? How do I stop it?

Yup, sounds like they are trying to nurse on eachother! I have a 6 year old Border Collie that does this to his toys. If you want them to stop, train them to not do it. Give them a correction each time you see this behavior.
I am sure it is a way to relate to one another and a way to comfort each other. I am not sure how to stop it though
Im pretty sure they are jsut cleaning each other.. I have two cats and all they do is lick each others fur. So i think they are jsut cleanign each other
